This week I am on the Solar & Energy Saving Products China sourcing fair.
We are exhibiting with an engineering firm specialized in solar panels (HCEA, based in Hong Kong), and it seems like these products are attracting a good number of importers.
Here is a list of the specifications checked on solar panels:
- Quantity to ship
- Size of the photovoltaic module
- Weight of the photovoltaic module
- Length and type of cables
- Labeling & packaging
Here is a list of potential defects:
- A cell is not the same color as the others on the same panel
- Poor connection on a module
- Stains (> 1cm in size)
- Stains (3mm to 1cm in size)
- Excessive dust on a panel
- Damaged module
- Scratch marks on the glass
- Broken glass
- Poor sealing of a module
Here is a list of tests to perform in the factory:
- Output power test
- Flashing test
- Dark room check
Anybody has other suggestions?

Hi, I´m the Quality chief Engineer in an Electronic Industry in Colombia, I thing the most important things to ckeck in electronic products are the electric parameters.
As an example in my company the most important measures on the product are
the value of current in the output, the time of the current pulse, the power lost in the components etc.
So when inspecting quality in electronic products special equipment most be used and people with backgrounds in electronics is a plus.
A good way to start is by using the datasheet of the product and checking with the correct equipment if everything that is in the datasheet is true.

Juan,
Thanks so much for this information. You are right, some tests performed on electronic products are also relevant on solar panels.

Hi, i am tonyzhou from china ,which is the most pv solar manufactuers.in my opinion we need add power tolerance , efficiency of panel & raw material. In china so many small solar manufactuers use bad raw material to solar panels. Within several years, we maybe not meet some problem of quality. But after this time, the problem will appearance.

Tony,
Interesting. Thanks for this info!
